Welcomed our two newest members, The Peninsula Subdivision, and Ardenlee Subdivision.
After the elections, Beth took over the meeting and we discussed the following hot topics, two of which need immediate action:
1. Cell Tower Plan for the city
2. Budget Workshop sponsored by Eric Imker, Post 1
3. Current Leash Law
4. Salary Increases for City Employees/City Council
Items 1 and 4 listed above are to be addressed by council or planning commission within the next month.
Here are the important dates that surround these issues:
• Jan 21 (tomorrow), 7pm, City Hall- City Council Meeting to discuss salary increases for city employees/city council- Please plan to email council at council@peachtree-city.org or attend this meeting should you have something to say on this issue. It is not a public hearing issue, but the mayor has confirmed that he will be accepting comments from attendees on some of the new items on the agenda. It is at his discretion. (agenda link http://www.peachtree-city.org/index.aspx?nid=193 )
• Feb 2 6:30pm, City Hall- Joint Workshop to Consider Future Cell Towers in PTC
o So far we have received requests by both Verizon and T Mobile to look at placing cell towers in our parks and near our neighborhoods. Most recently this request was by Verizon and St Paul Lutheran Church adjacent to Ardenlee subdivision to rezone St. Paul from its current zoning which prohibits cell towers to Open Space-Public which allows the tower.
o General consensus of the PTCCA, although no official vote has been taken on this issue, is that the city needs to develop a comprehensive plan update to include locations of cell towers and zone accordingly. This plan should be developed possibly using an outside consulting firm, and taking into consideration health concerns, aesthetics, future requests, and citizen input. This should not be rushed. No rezoning for cell towers should be considered until this plan is in place.
o Please plan to attend this meeting and listen and voice your concerns, the power of numbers will drive home the importance of getting this right. If it does not impact your neighborhood now, it will in the future.
o The PTCCA is currently working to develop a position paper on this issue that will take into account the info received at this workshop. It will be presented to both planning commission and council.
• Feb 8 7pm, City Hall-Planning Commission Meeting to vote on rezoning of St. Paul’s church property for Verizon cell tower
• March 4 7pm, City Hall- City Council Meeting- This would be the SOONEST council could vote on the rezoning of St Paul’s for the cell tower, assuming Planning commission votes on it Feb 8.
Item 2 above speaks of the Budget Workshop sponsored by Eric Imker, Councilman, Post 1. The date for this workshop is Jan 30, which is a Saturday, at 2pm at city hall. All are welcome and encouraged to attend to voice your priorities for the budget and what to do about our budget shortfalls.
Decided to form Cell Tower Committee and draft position on Cell tower issue after attending Feb 2 workshop. We also discussed focusing on member recruitment, and Beth is going to issue a statement at the Jan 21 council meeting with our intent to draft a position on the cell tower issue. We also discussed public comment on issues that are not public hearings at city council and Beth was going to check with mayor to see what his policy was on this.
Meeting adjourned 8:55pm.
